The Little Prince

- A Journey

An immersive performance design based on the original text by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry - designed for Wapping Hydraulic Power Station, London.

Mixing theatre with circus, interactivity and elements of art installation we follow the Little Prince on his journey to five different planets or machines, finally landing on Earth where we travel far and wide, learning about the value of time and the difference between adults and children. When at last we meet the Pilot (where the original story in the book starts and where now the Prince’s journey ends) we find out exactly why the Prince undertook the journey in the performance climax that uses aerial performance and projection to leave a lasting impression on the audience about love and responsibility.

Wapping Hydraulic Power Station powered, amongst other things, the theatre lifts in the West End. It helped power the modern narrative world. The world occupied by adults that at all times were concerned with “matters of consequence” which, in their opinion is vastly more important than something as trivial as the survival of a rose on a far off asteroid.  When the station closed its doors in July 1977 it no longer had an outlet so the power of the station turned inward. The station started to power something wholly different. It began to power a realm of imagination that grew in its emptied and dusty halls. The old turbines and engines began to turn again, sustaining an inherent part of a story that takes place deep inside us all, and far far away on different stars.
