an adaptation of Ionesco’s Rhinoceros for New Directions Festival and Lyric Hammersmith’s Evolution Festival

rhino(s) was adapted from Eugène Ionesco’s Rhinoceros into a 30 minute play by the director and dramaturg Yasmin Hafesji. The design and the script influenced each other to such a degree that one could not exist without the other.

Man is the protagonist who is unwilling to accept the changes in society, and ultimately his friends, though they METAMORPHOSE in front of his eyes. The set enforces the claustrophobia felt by MAn as his world transforms and he is left to question his own humanity in the face of societal change.
